- Essential Functions
Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values; adheres to hospital policies, including those pertaining to confidentiality; demonstrates CPR according to American Heart Association standards; adheres to all Patient Safety Goals and Standards of Performance; utilizes the Nursing process to assess the patient, plan individualized care, identify expected outcomes, implement and evaluate nursing interventions for patients and families; provides direct patient care according to unit specific competencies; assists with orientation of new employees as assigned; requires minimal supervision to safely perform patient care; utilizes proper body mechanics when moving, positioning and transferring patients without assistance or with assistance when needed for patient safety, and when moving equipment that is necessary to perform essential functions; performs therapeutic procedures or assists with diagnostic procedures required for the care of the patient; administers medications including controlled substances by all routes except IV push; responds appropriately to emergency patient situations; initiates IV therapy and NG insertion after completion of approved IV therapy and NG insertion training; assists patients with activities of daily living; performs basic life support; performs skilled procedures and can state the purpose, rationale, precautions and observations related to that procedure; assists with patient/family education by reviewing and implementing established education plan; completes education documentation; utilizes a PC or terminal to access the Hospital Information System; assists with direct patient care as needed; provides report to Charge Nurse/Nurse Manager/Nurse Educator as needed; demonstrates ability to provide competent patient care to the following patient populations: Pediatric, Adolescent, Adults, Geriatric; maintains accurate and complete medical records by utilizing the correct documentation tools and procedures, assisting with the completion of MAK/MAR, and completing all applicable documentation; adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards; communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and members of the healthcare team in person and via telephone; responds promptly to unit pages; participates on committees as assigned; participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required; related duties as required.
- Minimum Requirements
- Graduation from an accredited school of practical nursing meeting the minimum standards set by the state of Alabama and licensure with the state of Alabama as a licensed practical nurse.
