Essential Functions

Installs, maintains, and repairs transformers, electrical switchgear, electric motors, generators, and related building electrical and mechanical equipment; installs, maintains, alters, and repairs conduit, cable trays and other wiring support devices, building wiring including electrical, controls and systems wiring, grounding systems and devices, electrical circuits and panels, receptacles, switches and other control devices, lighting fixtures, and other building related electrical equipment; installs electrical fixtures and appliances, climbs ladders and stairs to access work areas; locates and corrects power failures and short circuits; makes emergency repairs to building electrical systems and equipment, mechanical equipment, control, alarm and other systems, electrical appliances and equipment, and other electrical apparatus; supervises the work of Electrician I, electrical helpers, laborers and other USA Renovations personnel; assists in the procurement of electrical, lighting and systems materials and/or labor; coordinates and inspects the work of subcontractors to satisfactory completion of contracts; works alongside electrical contractors in the installation of incidental electrical, lighting or building systems for USA "capital" projects; inspects existing USA buildings to determine "as-built" conditions and records same; moves items weighing up to 100 lbs.; performs light carpentry or other construction duties as required when not performing electrical work; operates a University vehicle to travel to and from work sites or to purchase/transport materials; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required;  related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent, three years of experience in electrical work and possession of a valid driver's license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama.
