Northern Improvement Company is an industry leader in the Midwest for highway, heavy, and municipal construction. We are a mechanically-inclined person with materials experience to be a SCREENING PLANT / WASH PLANT OPERATOR in our Bismarck Municipal Operations.

PROJECT LOCATION - McKenzie Wash Plant (I-94, Exit 176)


  •  Assist in ensuring that the equipment/plant functions as designed at all times
  • Assist in the documentation of machine repairs
  • Assist with troubleshooting equipment malfunctions in order to minimize downtime as well as striving to improve equipment/plant operating efficiency to maximize production, save time, save fuel, and minimize labor
  • Perform light mechanic repairs and use welder and cutting torch
  • Perform regular greasing/lubricating of equipment
  • Understand electrical equipment, conveyors, and vibratory equipment
  • Perform other related duties as required, directed, or as the situation dictates


  • Must be physically able to push, pull, bend, twist, reach (including overhead), kneel, squat, stand/walk on uneven ground &/or hard surfaces, sit for long periods of time, climb ladders &/or equipment
  • Ability to speak, see, and hear clearly (naturally or with correction)
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment urine DRUG test and submit to random DRUG and/or ALCOHOL testing during employment
  • Valid driver license
  • Ability to pass MSHA & OSHA training


We are seeking an individual with experience with gravel and/or scoria pits and an interest in working around heavy construction equipment and material production facilities such as asphalt plants, concrete plants, aggregate crushing facilities, and conveying systems.


  • Our crews typically work 40 to 70+ hours per week, depending on the weather 
  • Duration approximately mid-May through early-November


  •  Base Wage: $24.65 per regular hour
  • Full Benefits available through the Operating Engineers union [NOTE: North Dakota is a Right to Work state]
