Flight Standardization Specialist Training/Field Support
*
Reports directly to the Flight Training Standardization Manager.
*
Successful completion of all AVO Operator requirements.
*
Incorporated into the AeroVironment Instructor/operator training program (I/OTM).
*
Will operate Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (SUAV) in the field.
*
Will have the opportunity to visit US and foreign military bases overseas to conduct SUAS operations.
*
Must be able to work well within a team environment, communicating with senior leadership as well as mentoring junior staff.
*
Must have excellent commitment to quality SUAS flight operations.
*
May assist in Business Development as needed, working closely with Training Manager.
*
May be based out of an office located in Southeastern USA, but will travel extensively to isolated locations throughout the US and abroad.
*
Minimum of 1,000 hours of SUAS logged as Instructor or Operator (IO or VO) desired.
*
Minimum of 5 years as SUAS Instructor or Operator desired.
*
Certified on Tier/Group II desired.
*

Ensure all SUAV flight and ground operations are IAW established procedures.
*
Establish L/R site to ensure system operations are conducted efficiently and safely.
*
Conduct all necessary SUAV systems, equipment, and material inventories prior to departing the L/R site.
*
Maintain two-way communications on all assigned radios frequencies and data transmission systems.
*
Collect, process, and deliver ISR data on appropriate systems in the proper format based on the timelines established and priorities set in the SOPs.
*
Immediately advise MCs, customer representatives, and controlling authorities of any changes affecting the planned SUAV flight operation.
*
Maintain proper operational status of SUAVs and supporting operations systems.
*
Maintain situational awareness of the air vehicle's location, in-flight status, and threats to the air vehicle from the air and ground.
*
Constantly monitor weather on-site and along intended flight paths.
*
Continually re-evaluate risk assessments and take appropriate actions to mitigate any elevated risk levels.
*
Complete all documentation required for flight operations, equipment operational status, and data collection.
*
Maintain situational awareness to ensure security and safety of L/R site personnel and equipment.
*
Safely recover SUAV air vehicle.
*
Complete post-flight procedures.
*
Capture critical information for input into after-action reports and lessons learned databases.
*
May be required to perform duties of Mission Commander.
*
Complete Mission Packets and conduct briefings of the day s flight operations to key personnel.
*
Conduct reviews of weather, Notice to Airmen (NOTAMS), and Special Instructions (SPINS) for possible conflicts.
*
Understand local Airspace Control Plan (ACP) and ensure proper inclusion of ISR SUAV operations.
*
Complete necessary documentation for the development of briefings and risk assessments.
*
Ensure airspace is obtained and relayed to flight crews 30 minutes prior to air vehicle launch.
*
Monitor mission status and advise customer representatives and controlling authorities of any changes affecting mission capabilities.
*
Review weather forecast updates to determine effects on the ISR SUAV mission.
*
Ensure all communications and data systems are functioning properly.
*
May be required to conduct both formal and informal feedback sessions with assigned personnel.
*
May be responsible for all training team logistical support; coordinates hotel and travel reservations for logistics training team.
*
May be responsible for execution of SUAV Operator Training Course.
*
Responsible for SUAV Instructor assignments during course and ensures instructors maintain the highest level of system competency.
*
Responsible for classroom scheduling and coordination of SUAV operations training areas.
*
Responsible for airspace management and deconfliction with Air Traffic Control and Range Control operation centers.
*
Liaison between students and Army Program Office.
*
Monitors student progress and deficiencies; makes recommendations for student removal to Army Program Office as required.
*
Constantly monitors course progress and adjusts training schedule to ensure course completion.
*
Responsible for ensuring proper amount of training equipment at training location.
*
Works closely with maintenance support personnel to monitor status of repair, return and resupply of equipment from AeroVironment.
*
Responsible for the safety of all instructors and students during the training course.
*
Prepares SUAV Operator Training Course material for subsequent classes.
*
Responsible for tracking training course statistics and student critique inputs.
*
Provides data to Logistics Training Manager for trends analysis.
*
Responsible for instructor conduct and professional development during SUAV Operator Course.
*
Observes instructor performance and corrects deficiencies; advises Logistics Training Manager.
*
Assists the Standardization Manager in curriculum development and validation of training courses.
*
May have the opportunity to visit US and foreign military bases overseas to conduct training.
*
May be required to have excellent commitment to quality training, including ensuring a consistent implementation training standards.
*
Duties include monitoring student performance, improving training curriculum, and mentoring other students and trainers on their performance.
*
Maintains a Standardization Instructor/Operator Training Program.
*
Directly responsible for AV training materials of the system assigned and assist on other systems as directed.
*
Coordinates directly with all agencies, internal and external, to design and develop customer specific training.
*
Coordinates directly with all AV departments on system and manual currency, updates and changes.
*
Maintains records confirming instructor/operator qualification requirements. Ensures instructor/operator currency requirements are met and proficiency maintained for each.
*
SUAS system the operator is certified on Schedules and administers instructor/operator annual and no notice operator evaluations.
*
Responsible for the design and development of DOD service compliant Training Programs for current and future SUAS.
*
Responsible for curriculum development and validation of all training courses offered by the company.
*
Responsible for developing new training courses base on documented customer requirements of the system assigned and assist on other systems as directed.
*
Works closely with product leads to develop user manuals and courseware.
*
Maintain currency and updates for all SUAS training programs.
*
Design and develop training programs that are compliant and acceptable for all AV SUAS customers.
*
Flight Training Standardization.

Monitor all SUAS training to ensure Standardization.
*
Ensure standardization of instruction where appropriate across the spectrum of all courses.
*
Ensure Standardization with courses of like systems and different instructors.
*
Conducts site survey for training locations. Coordinates with host base personnel for logistical and training support.

Attends NMIB initial customer briefing.
*
Ensures training area is sufficient to accommodate SUAS Operator Training Course.
*
Advises Air Traffic Control and Range Control personnel on SUAS operations.
*
This also includes coordinating/developing operating procedures.
*

Ensures compliance with local directives.
